Day 18 Back to Tokyo

Day 18 Back to Tokyo

Just a quick post on the last long train journey this trip with the added attraction of traveling under the sea - the Hokkaido Shinkansen. This is also one of the newest Shinkansen line which opened in 2016 after the Seikan Tunnel was completed, opening the route from Aomori to Hokkaido. When entering the tunnel, the cabin signs let you know that your are traveling at 190 km/hr 100 meters below the seabed, about 240 meters below sea level.

As the train heads out, we get more glimpses of the surrounding mountains and the uniquely Hokkaido views.

And a couple of the best Ekibens we've had.

Until we are back in the real world, transitioning to the crowds in Tokyo Station...

Then it's a quick half hour to our digs in Nakano-ku in Western Tokyo. The neighborhood is in the same general area we lived in before moving to Berkeley with the added benefit of being close to where Marie' lives. Good place to spend the last leg of this trip.

Couple more shots in the Hakodate to Tokyo gallery.
